Chris Pine and Wonder Woman

Comic book and film fans are getting a clearer look at what Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have got in store with Batman V Superman, but the future of Wonder Woman is still fairly unclear with not even a glimpse of her in the last trailer, and no images of her since the promotional image which feels so long ago. Actress Gal Gadot will bring the superheroine to life opposite Batman and Superman, but her solo film series has undergone some huge shake-ups of its own: most notably, the departure of director Michelle MacLaren.

With that departure came a few worried fans thinking that the film might be doomed for failure before it's even truly started. But with the loss of one director comes an entirely new creative approach, and the first sign of new director Patty Jenkins' vision may have arrived with news on who could be appearing alongside Gadot as Wonder Woman.

Variety is reporting that Star Trek actor Chris Pine is "in negotiations" to play Steve Trevor. If negotiations are successful, Pine would star opposite Gadot who will debut in the role in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Scott Eastwood was previously rumored for the role, and Variety reports that Warner Bros. offered the second-generation actor the chance to audition for the Steve Trevor role or take a "guaranteed, supporting part" in Suicide Squad and he chose the latter.

Is Pine the right choice? Loved the guy in Star Trek, and he's had some good roles since too, aside from Jack Ryan. Many fans appear to be calling for him to be the next Hal Jordan instead; now that I can see!

Wonder Woman is scheduled to be released 23rd June 2017, directed by Patty Jenkins and scripted by Jason Fuchs.
