Namor

If there's one Marvel character that has left fans scratching their heads as to what his film rights are, it's Namor. The questions spin around Namor The Sub-Mariner being Marvel's first mutant. Now we have some news on where his film rights lie.

Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, during an interview with Kevin Smith on the Fat Man on Batman podcast, has indicated that Marvel Studios actually have the rights back for its first mutant, Namor The Sub-Mariner -- a character whose film/TV rights Kevin Feige previously called "complicated."

"...The same people that own Iron Man, own the Sub-Mariner?"

The question that fans want to know. If Namor is owned by the same as Iron Man then he could potentially be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Otherwise, the rights are with Fox (*shudder*) or Sony (*shudder*) who both have less than stellar histories with Marvel characters.

Thankfully Quesada replied:

"I can't speak for studios...As far as I know, yeah we do. It’s not at Fox, it’s not at Sony...Yeah."

As for the possibility of seeing Namor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sometime soon, Quesada said, "I cannot confirm or deny, sir."

Well it's more promising than what people thought before. We'd imagine though that there's still a problem due to Namor being a mutant, which Fox own the rights to when it comes to Marvel films. But they can always just never say the word mutant, like with the MCU versions of Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch. Then there's that he's traditionally a Fantastic Four villain, which at one point made him a confirmed Universal property (Kevin Feige confirmed in an interview a few years ago when asked about Namor, saying "That’s at Universal"). Thankfully they never used him.

One thing we do know though, is that a Namor film would be freaking awesome.
