Netflix has acquired Mark Millar's Millarworld, the company which owns and organizes the writer's various creator-owned titles.

The deal will reportedly allow the streaming giant to make "films, series, and kids shows" based on Millar's various properties, and in addition oversee the continued comic book work done by the Scottish comic legend, through Millarworld.

"As creator and re-inventor of some of the most memorable stories and characters in recent history, ranging from Marvel's the Avengers to Millarworld's Kick-Ass, Kingsman, Wanted and Reborn franchises, Mark is as close as you can get to a modern day Stan Lee. We can't wait to harness the creative power of Millarworld to Netflix and start a new era in global storytelling."

Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos

It's currently unclear which franchises Netflix will be able to adapt to film or television, as Millar and his carious co-creators have previously sold the film and television rights to many of their titles to outside studios, including the four mentioned by Sarandos.

"Mark has created a next-generation comics universe, full of indelible characters living in situations people around the world can identify easily with," added Sarandos. "We look forward to creating new Netflix Originals from several existing franchises as well as new super-hero, anti-hero, fantasy, sci-fi and horror stories Mark and his team will continue to create and publish."

First launched in 2004, Millarworld has been Millar's own defacto comics line and brand name for his various creator-owned titles published by Marvel Comics, Image Comics, Dark Horse Comics, and Avatar Press.
