Unfamiliar Skies issue 1

Kickstarter has become a great way for new comics to see the light of day. Unfamiliar Skies was one of these and has since allowed Sam Webster to take his comic to conventions as well. Thankfully, this isn't just a successful Kickstarter comic, it's also a good, fun book that was written and illustrated by Webster.

Unfamiliar Skies is a sci-fi adventure, telling the story of a young lady called Claris who is bored of her home life, so steals a spaceship to go adventuring.

Whilst the plot isn't anything new, it is clever and engaging and before you know it the comic is finished. There's twists and turns aplenty in just 20 pages that provide entertainment, action and some great dialogue.

The art has a clear Manga influence and keeps everything clear. It's not too detailed, but at the same time probably could do with a bit more to take it to the next level. For a first in a series, it's a good start and you can't help but feel that it will only get better as Webster continues the series and expresses himself a bit more artistically.

Overall, it's a fun book and a solid debut issue that leaves you looking forward to future issues.
