Gillen launches Rings Of The Mandarin in Iron Man

Kieron Gillen’s Iron Man run has been nothing if not bold. The writer originally had his initial pitch desecrated, and started all over with new plans for the character. The Secret Origin Of Tony Stark was a bold and divisive story that bridged a new piece of continuity into the Iron Man mythology. The move has made the new arc entitled Iron Metropolitan much more interesting than it could have been before. Today it was revealed that the next story is going to consist of the Mandarin once again. The villain has been killed after the multi-part of the Invincible Iron Man series from Matt Fraction. The future was a really horrific tale for the son of Howard, that put him in a tantalizing position. Now the Rings Of The Mandarin has finally been revealed as the next arc of the series from Newsarama. The book is set to get the All-New Marvel Now! treatment with a confusing new #1 next to its name. Gillen’s Iron Man is not resetting, but heading into a different arc with Iron Man 23.NOW. Luke Ross is set to join the art duties on the book for the new saga. It was revealed today, that the new Rings Of The Mandarin tale revolves around thor villain Malekith The Accursed discovering the Rings. CBR also had some great quotes from Gillen as seen below,
I pick up Malekith from where Jason and Ron leave him. When I first had the idea of doing a Malekith-centric story, I heard about Jason's plans. Checking the calendar, I saw where "Thor" finished was basically where my story would be starting. That sort of coincidence makes me smile.
What manner of elf wouldn't hate a man of Iron, after all? All elves hate Iron. I'm really pushing the unusual, alien psychology of Malekith. The Elves simply aren't like us. Tony's been into space in my run, and I think my elves are at least as alien than anything he met up there.
The new storyline kicks off in March with Iron Man 23.NOW.
