Colossive Cartographies Series Eleven: Astorial Shower App by Ed Pinsent
The latest Colossive Cartography has been revealed. Ed Pinsent is returning with this fold-out instruction manual for the new digital showers in the Astorial Hotel - Astorial Shower App.
Ed is a small-press comic artist who has been active since 1982. He is the creator of characters such as Windy Wilberforce, Primitif, Henrietta La Folle, Illegal Batman, and Drake Ullingsworth, along with many unique short stories, fables, and poetic comics.
His two previous works in the Colossive Cartographies series are Astorial Cutaway and False Alarm: The Collapse of False Face. Further episodes featuring the fictional Astorial Hotel are constantly emerging.
This zine is connected to a story by Ed Pinsent titled "The Cold Shower," which he created and illustrated last year but has yet to publish. In this story, he imagines the consequences when hotel management decides to upgrade all the shower units, aiming to maintain the elegant designs of the 1960s while integrating modern digital technology. However, the resulting issues turn the showers into dangerous zones that could potentially threaten the guests' safety.
A key element of this fantasy involves a smartphone app that guests use to control their showers in some way. Ed wanted to design a series of confusing diagnostics represented by various icons or symbols. While such an app appears briefly in "The Cold Shower," he felt it necessary to explore it further through the concept of a Colossive Cartography.
Astorial Shower App is also available as part of the six-issue Series Eleven set.
You can buy Astorial Shower App for £2 here. Or you can subscribe to Series Eleven for just a tenner and get all six titles as soon as they're published.
