A fan film called "Darth Maul: Apprentice" has been released giving the fan favourite Star Wars character roughly the same amount of screen time that he got in "Episode I: The Phantom Menace", and they make him shine even more than he did in that limited screen time. His badass presence is on full show, and director/writer/producer Shawn Bu presents the background story of the character we never saw on screen. It follows Maul’s final mission from his master to earn himself the Darth mantle, a mission that sees him battling an entire group of Jedi in as epic a fashion as "Episode I’s" Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan duel.
It's not just the character of Maul that really get's shown off in this short - the fight choreography is stunning, as are the incredibly high-quality cinematography and graphics. Even the minor characters looked great, even if you know that they won't beat Maul (it's not a spoiler if you've read the above). Much like how Darth Maul became captivating without really doing much in Episode I, the handful of nameless Jedi in the fan film feel compelling and distinctive after only seconds of action.
