Russell Mark Olson, award-winning cartoonist of Tripwire and Yancy Street, brings us back to prohibition-era St. Louis with the latest addition to his pulp/sci-fi comic series, Gateway City.

Gateway City Vol IV: American Trust, features the private detective Lundy Lundqvist and his team fighting against the ruthless aliens who have turned the Roaring Twenties metropolis into their deadly playground. The book is currently available for funding on Kickstarter and has received an overwhelming response, reaching its funding goal in just 14 hours.

Gateway City Vol IV: American Trust

American Trust takes a darker turn from previous chapters. The crooked senator "Snake" Whelan (based on real-life gangster turned politician Thomas Kinney) wields his deadly influence over the city and his alien guests, keeping Lundy and co-occupied staunching the flow of blood. When they need an ally most, the mask begins to slip from their mysterious brass-from-the-stars causing our heroes to ask: Who can we trust?

"This chapter is a little bit like the Empire Strikes Back of the series: the cornered snake lashes out. This book has a hefty body count."

With his signature bold, brushy lines and muted palette, Olson continues to craft a story which looks like it would be home in the pages of a 1940s Sunday paper while retaining a modern sense of design and narrative. Karl Kesel (The Adventures of Superman; Impossible Jones) has said the series is "a little Alex Toth, a little Dick Tracy, a ton of fun!" American Trust continues the trend set by the second volume, using the large A4 print size to bridge the gap between the US comic format and the gloriously oversized newspaper funnies of an almost bygone era.

Speaking about the third volume of Gateway City, Moon Knight and Old Dog artist-writer Declan Shalvey said, "Every inch of this book is beautiful. Russell Mark Olson's work is amazing."

Gateway City, Vol. IV: American Trust has a heap of rewards on offer. From physical and digital editions, to bookplates, original art, and sketch commission slots. The book will also be available to pick up at this year's Thought Bubble. The book will be printed in both the UK and US so that fans on both sides of the Atlantic will see cheaper shipping costs.
