When Oh No! Comics announced Esmee on Kickstarter, it was sold as rescuing the comics industry from 70 volume mega epics with a punky self-contained 20-page single issue comic. And that's exactly what Esmee #1 is.

Join Esmee and her best friend Marie as they battle ghosts, meet woodland fairies and proceed to smash, crash and bash through the stuffy world.

It's described as Marie Antoinette meets Tank Girl, and who are we to disagree with that!

It is a comedy mixed with action that is all about offering something a little bit different to the norm.

Why you should read/buy

Esmee is the first comic from Oh No! Comics, and hopefully not the last. Aside from the obvious ", you should buy because indie creators deserve the love and support", there's plenty going on in this short comic. It's 20 pages including the cover pages, but it doesn't feel rushed. There's a story and it's fun to follow it along.

There's a fair amount of humour as well, with some dark humour at the end that should bring a laugh out of you. Combined with the action and it's a recipe for an enjoyable comic.

About the Creative Team

Russell Wood is a comics creator who loves the weirder end of comics and believes that style is more important than substance. Esmee is his first comic which he made during the COVID lockdown.

Along with creating comics, he is working on a book outlining the alternative history of British comics.
