Grass, it has to be said, is not scary and neither are most plant based horrors, like The Ruins for example. Sure it was icky and had some cool gross-outs, but not scary at all and so it goes that In the Tall Grass fails to conjure up anything remotely frightening, but it does indeed offer some gruesome moments. Head crushing? Yep. Eating your own baby? You bet!
The director Natali (Cube) manages to stage a couple of fairy tense scenes and the performances are solid, especially the ever dependable Wilson (criminally underused), but overall it was pretty underwhelming.
As this is another Netflix Original the production values are excellent and I expect that this will do well on the streaming service, given the current resurgence of Stephen King adaptations.
The Verdict: 2.5/5
