We need more Dredd films

Everyone loved 2012's Dredd right? Some people doubted Karl Urban could pull it off, but he was fantastic. The writing by Alex Garland was top notch. It was dark, gritty, gory and a great look into the Dredd world of the future. So when are we going to see more of this?

The seemingly official reason is that the film didn't do that well at the box office. Can you blame it though? It didn't have a great budget like some of the massive blockbusters and so wasn't well advertised (compare how much advertising you've seen for Man of Steel and Iron Man). Many people I spoke to when it came out didn't even know that a new Dredd film was being made, and that usually brought them back to the original 1995 Stallone film which they didn't think was that good - which goes straight onto putting a negative light on the 2012 Dredd.

You'd have though that DVD and Blu-Ray sales would help the cause though. Dredd was top of Amazon's chart for quite a while. Word seemed to get around after the cinema screenings about how good this film was. That doesn't seem to have been enough though. Neither do the rave reviews that have been received by Dredd, where it was recently voted by some sites as the best film of 2012 (others putting it either just behind or on par with The Avengers). Anyone who's seen this film has loved it.

Great female lead in Olivia Thirlby as Anderson, great Dredd in Karl Urban (and he kept the helmet on), it has violence, Lena Headey was amazing as Ma-Ma, there was more violence and blood, a fantastic future world that not only showed the slums that some people still live in but also the technological advances that have been made, it was violent (yeah, I loved how violent it was. Why dumb it down, making it as violent as they did made it more believable and added to the film).

There are so many reasons as to why we need to see a second Dredd film. Personally, I want them to make a trilogy. I really want to see Judge Death make it to the big screen, but he's the kind of character that you could do last to finish of the series along with the Dark Judges. There's so much of this future world that could be explored that was only briefly mentioned in Dredd, so let's get a second one out and explore more. I want to see more of this world. I want to see a cool looking Mean Machine, a mention or some screen time for PJ Maybe. I want to see more of how Mega City one is run, I want to see the Resyk - the gruesome facility where dead bodies are recycled for food), and we also need to see the Iso-Cube prison cells that were mentioned a fair few times during the film.

I hope that fans of the the film aren't left disappointed. There's so much still to do and see with this reboot. We need to make some noise and show the men in charge of Dredd's fate that we want more.
