Justice League 3000

Justice League 3000 is a really awesome looking new book feature an interesting cast of characters. The title also had a fantastic creative team with Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, and the Kevin Maguire. This team of course worked on the main Justice League title in the eighties that most folks in comics seem to have a soft spot for. When reading the older series, you can see where those fans are coming from. The main DC franchise got funny with two amazing writers and an exceptionally talented artist. This new Justice League team was meant as a reunion for Giffen, DeMatteis, and Maguire, unfortunately the editorial down at DC decided otherwise. The artist was said to be fired from the house of Superman, the information first broke on his twitter account. In subsequent tweets he then revealed that he was not fired, but working on some other projects. The frustrated artist had this to say about the title,

80's Justice League

"After a few confusing hours, I kind of know where things stand and why, Though I'm still a bit perplexed as to how it got to this point. As for work, I've been offered some fun interesting stuff, many of which came from DC, who were very eager to keep me working there, so I'll be fine on that score, but it would have been great to do another Justice League with Giffen and DeMatteis. Oh, well... onward and upward..."

A new penciller was announced today on the book as Howard Porter. The artist has designed the all of the promotional images and characters for Justice League 3000, so this news does not come out of left field although it is still slightly dissapointing. Writer Keith Giffen shared his opinion on the new artist and what he could mean for the title going forward.

“The guy who nailed the character designs on the interior of the book? The guy who teamed with Grant Morrison to make JLA a hit? This is what they call a no-brainer, Welcome aboard Howard. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful collaboration.”

It is good to see the writer trying to make lemons out of well, horrible editorial decisions. Recently the offices of DC have been looking very poorly, as they have caused numerous writers and artists of the industry to quit. Joshua Hale Fialkov quit Green Lantern Corps. because, he said that the company were pushing him to tell a story that he was not initially hired to do. Gail Simone was fired off of Batgirl and then re-hired immediately, there was also a false start with Robinson on Earth 2. Who could forget writer Andy Diggle also leaving Action Comics out of frustration. Some of these changes even happen before a first issue is released, to say this is bad press would be an understatement. The release of Justice League 3000 has also been modified from October to December.
