2000 AD : A Visual History Book Announced for 50th Anniversary

2000 AD: A Visual History 1977-2027 is a special new book about how 2000 AD has evolved. It arrives fifty years after the comic exploded onto shelves and revolutionised comics forever.
The book will detail, year by year, the evolution of Britain's biggest comics export. It also covers the legion of legendary stories and the people who made it a world-changing cultural juggernaut!
This new oversized hardcover will include rare sketches, test pages, character designs and art. Featured artists include Dave Gibbons (Watchmen), Simon Bisley (Lobo) and Kevin O'Neill (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Brian Bolland (Batman: The Killing Joke) and Judge Dredd co-creator Carlos Ezquerra also feature.
2000 AD: A Visual History is part of the celebrations for the comic's 50th anniversary in early 2027. It will feature art newly rescanned from the original artboards. This will showcase the bold, iconic imagery that made the comic an institution. Behind-the-scenes sketches and character designs will also reveal how 2000 AD was made.
The Galaxy's Greatest Comic Since 1977
The weekly 2000 AD debuted in 1977 and proved to be a bombshell of a comic from the start. Its bold design, intense storytelling and uncompromising attitude permanently changed the publishing landscape.
Editor and writer Pat Mills led the team, alongside designers Kevin O'Neill and Jan Shepheard and art editor Doug Church. Together with many others, they gathered a roster of bold storytellers and dynamic artists. The comic they created would come to dominate British comics and influence culture far beyond Britain's shores. It subverted comics clichés and told dark, cynical and satirical stories. 2000 AD became a byword for the future and opened an exciting new era of British pop culture.
The self-styled "Galaxy's Greatest Comic" became home to some of the most popular characters in British comics. These include Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog, Sláine, Nemesis the Warlock and many, many more. It also gave a debut to many of comics' biggest talents. They later revolutionised the world of comics and inspired legions of fans around the globe.
The book is written by Scott Montgomery, author of The 2000 AD Encyclopedia. It details how the legendary comic and its famous characters were brought to life. The book also traces the history of the long-running British comic anthology. An exclusive slipcase edition of the oversized hardcover is available only through the 2000 AD webshop.
