Marvel’s Agent Carter is shooting itself into the big leagues of television with three episodes that are already glistening.

Now, let’s talk some spoilers:

One of the best parts of Agent Carter is how Edwin and Peggy are developing a very strong rapport very soon. Their back-and-forth is already one of the strongest aspects of the show. The way that their relationship is crafted is inverted in that Carter herself has the majority of the control in their friendship.

The S.S.R. is on top of Peggy, which illustrates something else about the show: the plotting is really tight so far, in a way that other Marvel projects haven’t been.

It’s amusing to see Peggy taking shots at someone else lashing into her. Could there already be the corruption from Winter Soldier placed within the S.S.R. at this very moment? The men from the S.S.R. are continually painted as true jerks, especially when they are interrogating Edwin, which is a wonderful scene. The mention of Honorable discharge also paints more information about Edwin. More importantly, this show finally has kind of turned into a cop show; especially regarding what happens at the end.

Peggy found some way to break Edwin out by getting something signed by the chief. During an after hours experience, Carter asks him about what exactly Edwin was lying about. He finally delivers a few pieces of information about his backstory. Jarvis’ wife turns out to be from Budapest. Edwin put his life on the line to save his wife Anna. The backstory fleshes out his character just right. “I might not always be truthful with Anna, but I’m always honest” wins the award for the best piece of dialogue for the night. Getting some background on the excellent character is fantasti. It would even be better to absorb some further information about what’s going on with him during the war.

Peggy is continually risking her job at the S.S.R., and at the moment here, it’s uncertain as to how she will function going forward. The politics of her having to work around the S.S.R. are getting more confusing and complicated as time goes forward. I have a feeling Stark is never going to be proven 100% innocent when he does eventually come back. There’s a pretty interesting fight scene with some strong choreography towards the back half of the episode here.

When the bodies drop towards the end of the hour, things start getting more interesting. One of the worst characters in the episode got picked off in a blaze of anti-glory. It shows this hour has a little more range than we originally thought. It’s lovely to see the show knows just how much time to spend devoted to the character. It’s not something that put a whole lot of time into or have a ton of misgivings about.

Time and Tide was another really great episode of Agent Carter, proving that the show’s sustained quality is not a fluke, but that we're in for a good season of television.
