The News that we Didn't Forget: Milestone Returns with Milestone 2.0
Reading time: 1 minute

We would be remiss if we didn't mention Milestone 2.0, a revived comic publishing line advocating a fresh take on diversity within comics. It's time for the medium as a whole to take a stand, and Reginald Hudlin, Denys Cowan, and Derek Dingle are more than up to the task with a relaunch of Milestone. With CBR, Hudlin had the following to say about this bold new take on the line:
"This company is called Milestone Media," said Hudlin. "[Milestone] was never just a comic book company. [The] name indicated being bigger than a comic book company. and now that's true more than ever. We're going to be working on multiple platforms, and all kinds of ways of presenting these ideas."
In the initial Washington Post article that debuted on Wednesday morning, Cowan had something interesting to say about the state of diversity within the Big Two:
"We’ve never just done black characters just to do black characters,” says Cowan. “It’s always come from a specific point of view, which is what made our books work. What we also didn’t do, which is the trend now, is [to] have characters that are, not blackface, but they’re the black versions of the already established white characters — as if it gives legitimacy to these black characters in some kind of way — [that] these characters are legitimate because now there’s a black Captain America."
The initial idea came out of the death of an important co-founder of Milestone: Dwayne McDuffie. The company is collaborating with DC Comics, and looking for some brand new digital ways to explore some new aspects of their line. In addition, they are also working on creating the upcoming Static Shock series that is currently in development as a television series.
