Abigor: The Final Solution Kickstarter Creator Interview
Reading time: 3 minutes
We had the chance to talk to the creator of Abigor: The Final Solution, Myles Hall, about his new Kickstarter campaign, discussing what will hopefully be a successful campaign. Check out the kickstarter campaign and give it some backing.
Abigor is set in Nazi Germany in during WWII, that is based heavily on historically accurate characters and events mixed in with some fictional themes of demonic possession and acute mental illness. Hitler lead by an ancient war demon called Abigor set across five comics to be released over the course of a year.
There were some things that we wanted to find out. Why Hitler and the level of research involved, how they got the right artist and future plans for the comic depending on the success - even if you're 100% confident in your campaign, you need to consider what could go wrong just in case.
CBNUK: So why create a comic on Hitler?
MH: I knew it was going to be controversial, it's more about the holocaust than anything. The premise came to me after I had watched a documentary about the holocaust, I was so horrified that fellow humans could commit such atrocities. I started thinking about the mindset of the holocaust perpetrators, pure evil and mental illness just seemed to fit!
CBNUK: Just how much research has gone into this project?
MH: Historical accuracy is a key theme, I love the idea of playing with fact and fiction, weaving them together and producing a narrative. I have always been fascinated with WW2, there is so much about that era that shocks, disturbs and amazes me.
CBNUK: Is there anything that sets your comics apart from others that tell of Nazi's and demons?
MH: I think the historical accuracy will stand out against previous Nazi titles. There is no punches pulled in this comic, no holds barred! It's a horror story, it delves into mental illness, manipulation, ancient demons, treachery, mass murder, witches and obsession, all neatly packaged into a five part mini-series.
CBNUK: What was the process like in picking the right artist for you?
MH: I won't lie, it's been tough. When I started writing the script I saw the characters in my mind, imagined the expressions on their faces. I wanted the comic to look different and have a disturbing feel to it. After many posts on 'Deviant Art' Ibia (our artist) approached me and after a discussion about the premise and the characters he sent me some concept sketches; they were just perfect. Since then Ibia has nailed each and every page.
CBNUK: What are your backup plans just in case Kickstarter doesn't work out for you?
MH: Well... We have put a lot of effort into the Kick and really hope it garners the support we require. That said you have to prepare for the worst. We have relationships with a few Indy publishers, they will be our next port of call.
CBNUK: Do you have any plans on taking the comics to conventions if you're successful on Kickstarter?
MH: 100%, one of my favourite parts of any con is meeting the writers and artists of Indy comics (that and the 50p comic bins). I would love to meet comic fans face to face and discuss Abigor!
CBNUK: The reward levels are nicely set up and affordable if someone just wants the comics. Are you planning on adding any other rewards, depending on what your final total is?
MH: Absolutely, right now I am refreshing my Kickstarter dashboard every five seconds to see if we have received any new pledges! It's worryingly addictive! If we surpass our target we have some exciting ideas for stretch rewards.
