Ace Jacket: Celebrating Doctor Who's Iconic Companion with Cosplay and Charity
In the final years of the 'classic' series of Doctor Who, one companion stood out and stayed strong. She was called Ace and was played by Sophie Aldred.
In fact, she was so well-loved and iconic, that she popped up in spin-off media, like Virgin's New Adventures novels (which featured many of the writers who went on to write or helm the current incarnation of the TV series), Big Finish audios, and she was chosen to appear again in Jodie Whittaker's final TV episodes, to end Jodie's tenure as the Thirteenth Doctor in 2022.

One of the defining images of Ace, much like the Doctor, were the clothes she wore – chiefly her black bomber jacket with the burnt orange lining. What made it unique was that it was festooned with badges, pins, and patches; all depicting different things.
ACE JACKET is part Anthology for fans and part How To Guide for cosplayers, but it's all Ace!
Synopsis
Have you ever wondered how Ace gained her patches, pins, and badges that adorn her jacket?
Wonder no more!
With more Doctor Who alumni than you can cram into a TARDIS contributing, you'll get to read some fantastically diverse stories within.
Not only that, but there's a How To Guide for cosplayers, and some amazing inspirations in the form of fans showcasing their own Ace jacket creations.
This is a charitable publication, supporting Autism Alliance UK and Autism All Stars.
Based on an idea by Shawn J Levy, Sophie has asked a whole skyful of Doctor Who stars to write creatively about those badges, pins, and patches. All with a new story to tell. This book will definitely be 'bigger on the inside'!
Chinbeard Books, an imprint of Andrews UK Ltd, is proud to be publishing this mighty tome, in A4 hardback form.
Commissioned by ACE JACKET editor, Barnaby Eaton-Jones, this full colour, high quality publication will be designed by Robert Hammond, and available as a limited Special Edition format if you purchase a ticket to attend 'BOOM!', the book launch event on June 7th at the Macbeth Centre in Hammersmith (run by Cygnus Alpha Events); which was the location for filming 'Remembrance of the Daleks' in 1988. You'll also have the chance to get your hands on the book ten days before the official publication on June 17th, which was the date (in 1987) when Sophie Aldred was contracted for her first story as Ace, called 'Dragonfire'. The author of which, Ian Briggs, is one of the many contributors to this book.
The book will be included in the price of the ticket.
