Arrow "Lost Souls" Review: Darhkness and (no) Light

Arrow brought back a certain character last week that will directly affect the rest of the upcoming show. However, I'm not sure if it's for better or worse, as Arrow has been a little bit muddled and confusing after the second season. Let's see how this episode develops.

Spoilers for Arrow "Lost Souls" below:

Where the hell did Ray go?
We’re going into full Legends of Tomorrow hype on Arrow, picking up with where the hell Ray went last season. Also, Alex (Ollie’s campaign manager) and Thea’s relationship is progressing way too fast...sigh...Thea’s love life is the worst.

The search Ray Palmer.
Curtis and Felicity are still trying to track down Ray Palmer...and I kind of wish the flashbacks were with him and still involved with Constantine in some sense which did invigorate the show last episode. Felicity and Ollie are finally onto Palmer, who is now stuck inside of an elaborate little glass case (that’s actually kind of silly.) Uhm, Felicity’s mother is back in town, and I kind of hoped that she would never ever come back to the show.

More relationship drama?
The flashback stuff is more than a little bit dull here -- I get that Ollie is in this military unit -- but I don’t know why he’s still undercover at this point. In other news, the relationship drama with Felicity and Oliver is making her look remarkably bad. When she confessed with tears that she doesn’t want to be with Oliver, she doesn’t come off looking particularly great. This is a manufactured problem coming from her side that isn’t pretty. Her problem is that she’s too in love with him? It’s flimsy logic that doesn’t quite resonate with any sort of relationship experience.

A prediction.
Is the season building towards the revelation of Oliver’s identity to the rest of the city? It could be as more and more people are starting to be introduced into the full crew. Going public might be the right direction for the show before this show gets too silly.

Ray and Quentin are Darhk.
Damien Darhk has Ray, of course he does because he’s the big bad of the season. I still keep hoping that he is a pawn for someone else. Neal McDonough’s performance is still slick, carrying the charisma needed for the rest of the show. His relationship with Detective Lance gives him something interesting to do on both sides -- meaning that the two characters kind of play off of each other.

Is Darhk the big bad?
Oliver gets caught really quickly by Darhk’s men as he tries to save Ray. I’m now convinced that he is not the big bad of the season. Hell, Oliver and his friends already were able to compromise virtually his entire organization. Above all, Darhk just seems to cocky. Also, there is quite a bit of action in this episode, making Arrow look pretty remarkable.

Screaming into the void.
Ray is back to life, and in a full fake Iron Man suit ready to kick some ass. Are the flashbacks going to produce anything meaningful this episode? Am I really invested in Sarah going through the same rage spiral as everyone else...nope. She’s just going to leave the show and work on becoming a Legend. So Felicity ended up mellowing out...which slightly improves things. Quentin and Dinah are a thing...I guess? Hopefully Oliver’s new campaign manager doesn’t equate to Thea’s drunk assassin one-night-stand? Darhk is still up to no good. WHERE IS ALL OF THIS GOING?
