We've known ever since we saw Thanos at the end of The Avengers that the Infinity Gauntlet would be coming to our screens eventually - how could the most epic Thanos story, spanning many series and sequels, not be used when he's set to be your big bad guy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? In the Infinity War (1992 comics) Thanos does his best to eradicate life in the cosmos to impress the object of his obsession, the personification of Death. Not content to let that happen, a group of heroes stands against him to save the universe, an act made all the more difficult because Thanos possesses all six reality-altering Infinity Gems. With the introduction of the Tesseract in Captain America: The First Avenger, the beginning of the Infinity Gauntlet started - we currently have 4 of the six stones shown in one film or another.

The good news is that once Thanos has all 6 stones, he will be going up against the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Josh Brolin can't wait, as he's not just playing any old character in Thanos; he's playing a character that he's a big fan off. ComingSoon.net was among the outlets that caught up with the actor during a press junket for Inherent Vice, where the conversation inevitably turned to his role as the Mad Titan.

“I love the idea of Thanos. Ultimately, it’s Thanos against everyone. Why wouldn’t you do that?”

“Thanos came along because of my good friend Louis D’Esposito [co-president of Marvel Studios]. He and I used to train together. We did Hollow Man together. He called me up and started talking about this thing. It was nice because I could intimately talk to him about it. What I liked. What I didn’t like about the whole idea of it … It was really exciting because of the possibilities that it could be come. Not as an idea or as a blockbuster, but just as something different. It’s a character mentality.”

Brolin, who briefly made a surprise proper appearance as Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, will take center stage in the Infinity War films, which are scheduled for release on 4th May 2018, and 3rd May 2019.
