Eight Seconds

Writer and illustrator Glenn B Fleming has a new book coming out in May - a war story that will surely appeal to fans of Commando Comics, called Eight Seconds. To mark the 75th anniversary of the largest invasion ever,  Fleming's dramatised account is of his father's experience as a British paratrooper on D-Day, 6 June 1944.

In the early hours of 6 June 1944, the British 6th Airborne Division left England and headed for the French coast, where they were the spearhead of the coming invasion of France, a seaborne operation that still ranks as the greatest amphibious assault in history - in the first 24 hours of D-Day alone, the Allies placed over 150,000 men on the Normandy beaches and the British 6th Airborne were among the first Allied troops to touch French soil that morning.

Fleming's late father, Frank Fleming, was a 19-year-old paratrooper serving in the 3rd Brigade, 9th Battalion as he and his colleagues headed out into almost certain capture, if not certain death. Their mission was vital; if the guns were not silenced, they would kill and maim hundreds, if not thousands, of British and Canadian troops wading ashore later in the day.

Eight Seconds is published on 1st May 2019 on Amazon in paperback and will retail at £19.99. Signed copies can be obtained from the author (£19.99, please add £5 for p&p in the UK. For overseas postage charges please contact mervillepara@gmail.com for full details.)
