In the time of the dinosaurs, a strange emerald meteor hurtles towards Earth whilst a boy from the 21st century mysteriously falls from the sky. It's Sinavore by Joshua Spiller, delivering dinosaurs as you've never seen them before.

ABOUT SINAVORE #1

A boy from the 21st century is thrown back to the prehistoric past. Zeph has to work out how to survive in this strange new environment. At the exact moment that he's thrown back in time, an emerald meteor hurtles towards Earth.

Zeph meets a timid, frightened dinosaur and together have to outwit and defeat a dinosaur tyrant - a giant skeletal T-Rex called Sina, who is pretty evil.

Can Zeph and his new dinosaur friend outwit and defeat the terrifying tyrant of the land? How does the dinosaur, Ovi, communicate with Zeph? Will he make it back to his time, or will the prehistoric period become his new home?

Why you should read/buy

There's a lot to love about this comic, from the storytelling to the art. This is a quality that shows why indie comics are incredible.

  • The art style is stunning, conveying the energy and scale of the story.
  • There are dinosaurs. Lots and lots of dinosaurs. That alone should be enough to read Sinavore.
  • Special shoutout to colourist Hebah Shafi for elevating the story to another level.
  • The design of Sina is fantastic. He doesn't just grab your attention with his size but the way he dominates panels with his green hue.
  • The comic is designed to work as a satisfying, self-contained story. But there's plenty of potential for further issues.

"With Sinavore, I'm proud of a couple of things. I'm proud that, for an indie comic, we were able to make it so affordable. £2 for a 26-page, full-colour comic is no mean feat, and a lot of creativity and ingenuity went into the design and production of the comic – not merely the story itself.

"And secondly, I'm proud of the scale of imagination in the comic. I had a vision at the outset, of fabulous, fantastical dinosaurs; of a compelling, exotic setting; and of an exciting, fast-paced plot. I think the creative team took on the torch of that vision and, in the fashion of a relay race, carried it over the finish line (with the slight caveat that the setting could still do with being fleshed out more, but I planned for that to be the job of future issues, if we get to make them). Considering the creative team were a kind of elite global task force (myself modestly excepted, of course) with two of us based in different regions of England, one of us based in India, and one in Canada, and considering that most of us have never met in person, I'm really pleased – and thankful – that, at least to my eyes, we all pulled in the same creative direction; we all strove to realise the same essential goal. The comic is, I'm sure, much the better for it, and that synergy is something to treasure."
