Return of the Marvel Monsters
Reading time: 1 minute
These days it seems that Marvel is known exclusively for their line of caped spandex clad comic book superheroes, but there was a time when their output was a little more monstrous. In fact our now well beloved Guardian of the Galaxy, the walking tree that is Groot himself debuted as a Marvel Monster. Well now Marvel has decided that the time for Monsters has returned. Starting in January we will see the five issue series appropriately titled Marvel Monsters Unleashed hitting our shelves from writer Cullen Bunn and no less than five artists Adam Kubert, Greg Land, Salvador Larroca, Steve McNiven, and Leinil Yu. The story revolves around the Marvel heroes waking up to discover that all of these monsters have decided to attack earth at the same time, and it’s going to take everyone from Spiderman to Deadpool, the Avengers to the Inhumans and hopefully even Squirrelgirl to stop these creatures rampaging. Everyone will have to work together, putting aside whatever grievances or problems they may have with any of the others in the post Civil War 2 climate, because some threats are bigger than any differences they may have. Marvel intends this to be a short hard impact event, with 30 page issues coming bi-weekly beginning January. And while we will be seeing the inevitable tie in comics they only intend to release seven or eight and each of these will be standalone one shots from the main heroes book and will be labelled accordingly, as they said themselves they want to keep this event lean and mean.
