If you're looking for a deeply personal and inspiring story that intertwines real-life experiences with the dark, twisted universe of Twisted Dark, then look no further than "Inspiration" by Twisted Comics. This limited edition comic, created in collaboration with Jessica Alves, takes readers on an emotional journey through her life and transition, offering a unique blend of heartfelt moments and fictional twists that fans of Twisted Dark will undoubtedly appreciate.

Inspiration by Twitsted Dark Comics

Inspiration is the story of Jessica Alves' transition with a Twisted Dark twist that is actually part of the Twisted Dark universe. Whilst there are some fictional elements, like the ending (the foreword by Jessica lays this out clearly), the rest is told with the hope that it will help young adults dealing with gender dysphoria and their well-meaning parents who may not know how to handle the situation. To offer a little understanding and a view into the mind of someone learning who they truly are and bringing a bit of understanding to help better understand and navigate your or a loved one's experiences.

The art is handed on Inspiration by Phil Buckenham. And if you've read enough of the Twisted Dark stories, then you'll recognise his work. Buckenham's art is defined by intricate lines that skillfully capture the fine details of characters, backgrounds, and objects, adding depth and texture to his work. His style effectively portrays people and scenes with lifelike qualities, emphasizing facial expressions and emotions.

Rob Jones is the letterer, and I can never praise his work enough. It's always clean, easy to read, and complements the art it goes with. Rob is one of the finest letterers around.

The story is written by none other than Neil Gibson - did you expect anything else, considering this is now "Neil Gibson's Twisted Dark"? Neil has honed his craft with these kinds of stories, but this time he has Jessica Alves as a muse to work with. What we get is a story to show the struggles of being transgender and being judged for it. It's a delicate story to take on, but who better to help with that than someone who has lived it? It's a story to inspire, to educate, to show some empathy all whilst keeping true to what the Twisted Dark comics have been about.

Inspiration preview two

The story is bookended by a foreword and an afterword by Jessica. The foreword provides the inspiration for the story, while the afterword delves deeper into the story, providing a bit more detail. It includes some history of her life up until now, describing the point where her mind, body, and soul are in harmony, and she has become everything she's always wanted to be.
