Sector 13 Comics Transitions to a non-profit for Northern Ireland's comics scene

Sector 13 Comics was founded by local enthusiasts. Over recent years, the group has built a creative network of writers and artists. As a non-profit, the group can now reach more creators, both emerging and established.

"Our goal has always been to create opportunities for comic creators here at home," said a spokesperson for Sector 13 Comics. "By becoming a non-profit, we can better support the community, access new resources, and create platforms that amplify local voices."

Sector 13 Comics says its aims are to:

  • Promote comics as an art form across Northern Ireland and beyond.
  • Support local creators through collaboration, mentorship, and by providing opportunities for publication.
  • Continue to produce original anthologies showcasing a diverse range of talent.
  • Facilitate the publication, promotion, and sale of independent comics by both group members and other small press creators.

The group also plans to grow its publishing output with new anthology collections and standalone titles. Sector 13 Comics will create more ways for creators to share and sell their work, locally and further afield.

Artists, writers, and comic fans across Northern Ireland are invited to get involved. You can join the group, contribute to upcoming projects, attend events, or support indie comics.

"This is just the beginning," the spokesperson added. "We're building something - a space where creativity thrives and where Northern Ireland's comic talent gets the recognition it deserves".

Sector 13 Comics will be funded through donations, comic sales, and a £50 annual membership fee. Membership is aimed at those who want to be more closely involved in creating new comics in Northern Ireland.

What's next for Sector 13 Comics

The next few weeks will bring the first releases from the new group. These include the long-overdue anthology Faces of War and a solo continuation of the AD 1900 title by Paddy Brown. There is also a brand-new comic, The Gift, from Davy Francis.
