The Vietnam Files, the latest Commando Presents collection, is out now from DC Thomson. The new graphic novel reprints four Commando tales from the Vietnam War, fought on land and in the air.
The first widely broadcast war in human history, the campaign in Vietnam changed everything. Spanning 20 years, it has gone down as one of recent history's most controversial wars. But within the fighting, on land and in the air, were heroes on both sides and stories of camaraderie and bravery like no other!
This special edition collects four of the best Commando comics featuring the Vietnam War in stunning black-and-white art. Collating classic Commandos No. 5013, 'The Hill', No. 5035, 'Escape Saigon!', No. 2753, 'Air Pirates', and No. 2842, 'Carrier Pilot', this volume is perfect for fans of British comics and military history. Featuring stunning artwork from Manuel Benet, Ian Kennedy and Jose Maria Jorge.
The collection's cover art comes from Commando No. 5013, 'The Hill', first published as a standalone issue in 2017.
The story is set in January 1968. A unit of rookie troops is stationed on Hill 466, known to the men as Little Round Top. Booby-traps and deadly wildlife are a constant threat, and the heat is punishing. The North Vietnamese Army is closing in, but the men have orders to hold the hill at any cost.
Janek Matsiak's cover puts the reader inside a helicopter, looking out at armed choppers above the dense green jungle. The tension starts on the first page.
The story stands out because of the doubt among its characters. Some of them question whether this war has any purpose, a view seldom found in Commando's Second World War tales. Each member of the cast has his own motives, and they disagree over the war itself. Rodriguez's detailed interior art gives every character a distinct look, so the large cast is easy to follow.
