WIP Comics Returns with '∞': A Square-Format Anthology of Endless Ideas

WIP Comics is back with its boldest anthology yet - ∞, a square-format celebration of endless creativity, live right now on Kickstarter. This press release, provided by the WIP Comics team, highlights their newest crowdfunded project following a string of successful campaigns.

∞: The new WIP Comics Anthology

We've funded the past two years' anthology projects via Kickstarter, and we're back for a third time with our latest book. It's a 120-page, square-format volume featuring the work of over 60 talented members of our online (and in-person!) community. Because we have even more people wanting to contribute than last year, we're also producing an expanded digital version of the book, which will feature even more pages of comics; this will be a free download for anyone who pledges for the physical book, but can also be backed separately for a bit cheaper.

This is our eighth group anthology project. The book is a little over eight inches square. Every creator has been given exactly eight panels to tell their story on the theme of infinity (or loop, or ouroboros). We have submissions about infinite monkeys, time loops, weird magics, the futility of labour, and the mystery of creativity.

There's a huge range of styles and genres on display, and we have newcomers to the UK indie comics scene rubbing shoulders with established favourites and industry professionals alike. Expect to see work from AJ O'Neill, Asia Kazub, Bee Poole, Bren, Chris Hazeldine, Cláudia Lopes, Edward Wills Garcia, Ellenor Mererid, Fergo, Florencia Botta, Hanna Gwynn, Jenny Bouvier, Joe Stone, Judy Powell, Kristina Stipetic, Lara Callaghan, Mike Armstrong, Nick Bryan, Rosario Cutuli, Ross Hopkins, Sevgül Sümer Dielemans, and Shaunak Samvatsar, to name but a few.

We're well on the way to having all the art finished and hitting all of our deadlines, but we've headed back to Kickstarter to help with the printing, production and distribution. There are some great tiers and extras backers can choose from, including digital versions of all the previous WIP anthologies for a super low price, hand-drawn sketch cards by our contributing artists, and the chance to have yourself drawn into one of the comics.

ABOUT WIP COMICS

WIP stands for 'Work in Progress', and we're a friendly community of comic creators who meet up every month to share what we're currently working on and offer each other feedback, advice and support. It's a place where writers and artists can bounce ideas off others who are in the same position as them, share any tips they've learnt, and generally talk about the craft of making comics and telling stories.

We're based in London, but have members and contributors from all across the UK and a few from various other countries around the world. Anyone is welcome to join the meetups, and everyone is treated the same, no matter how experienced they are or what sort of comics they make. We have members ranging from total first-timers to established pros with published graphic novels, and people who make everything from speculative fiction to deeply personal autobiographical work.

The group has produced an annual anthology for the last seven years, setting the theme in January and then giving everyone who wants to participate around six months to produce a comic. We share our progress at our monthly meet-ups over that time, bouncing ideas around and giving feedback to help make everyone's comics as good as they possibly can be. The books have grown to become a familiar and much-loved sight in the UK small press scene, and have become a great way to discover the next generation of comic-making talent.
