Peter Capaldi

Upon this recent announcement that have fans rushing to check out IMDB, Peter Capaldi has just been announced as the next Doctor. Obviously this affects the comic universe, as the title by Andy Diggle and company may have to switch lead characters. Doctor Who has just begun to start dominating American culture in almost every aspect, and may soon also go up against superhero movies. In the convention circuit regular attendees will be assualted by an astounding amount of fans, who are infatuated with the british television program. Capaldi also had the following had to say about playing the Doctor in an interview with the BBC,

“Being asked to play The Doctor is an amazing privilege. Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. I can’t wait to get started,”

The actor had a starring role on the sister show Torchwood as John Frobisher. While he was very good on the political drama side of the supporting cast, he was not given a chance to show his true potential as the Doctor in the former role. It is worth noting that Capaldi deserves this opportunity as he has been an excellent character actor with a career stretching all the way back to early 80's. In the recent film World War Z the character of W.H.O. Doctor was played none other than Peter himself, it is a nice easter egg that many fans had missed regarding the show. An older actor is also a welcomed change of pace as the Doctor was begginning to age backwards Benjamin Button style.

Let us welcome the twelfth doctor with open arms!
