How Cyclops became the mutant equivalent of Hitler

Scott Summers is a troubled human being that has had to go through so much over his short life span of roughly fifty something years. The character started as part of the original X-Men but began going down a dangerous path that turned him into something else in the early 80’s. Was it Professor X’s teachings that made him become so angry and lost, or was it something else? When looking back through history, several hints start gnawing away at the brain, the character has had several affairs throughout his life that gradually shape him into a different human being than the one that we bear witness to in modern comics. This is where Slim went wrong throughout the different periods of X-Men history.

60’s and 70’s

Cyclops troubles seemingly began when he was but a small child being pushed off of a plane with a parachute by his father to ensure his own survival. The young Summers child hit his head as he was going down and was never able to control his power, or his life from that point forward. His father was part of the United States Air Force, and their plane got hit by the Shi’ar people. The trouble spins out into a loss of control over the mutant power of lasers stemming from his eyes. The eldest Summers child is orphaned, leading towards even more traumatizing events. He ran away from the orphanage and joins the X-Men, under the careful watch of Professor Charles Xavier. He then meets that love of his life, Jean Grey. The mutant is conflicted towards his great love, he does not want to show affection out of fear that he will hurt Marvel Girl. His colleague, Warren Worthington then reveals his hidden feelings, and Cyclops wins her affection first.

Within a small period the young Jean Grey dies twice, and Scott’s life is changed forever. This kind of trauma really starts to flesh out his character in a negative light.

80’s

The trying time in the life of the elder Summers child begins when he starts to date Madelyne Pryor. The woman has a strong resemblance to Jean Grey, who Scott marries after Jean is dead yet again. The two have a child and appear happy, until a storm of chaos begins to engulf him. A young Jean Grey comes back from the dead, and coaxes the troubled man to leave behind both his wife and newborn child to join the X-Factor. This is the first step towards the end of the good man in the vessel known as Cyclops, and the evil lying beneath the surface. After a horrible chain of events, Pryor is transformed as a Goblin Queen hell bent on seeking revenge against the man who wronged her. The troubled individual is seemingly killed by her husband, who then continues to rekindle his romantic relationship with the affair that spiraled his life out of control.

This is yet another step towards sheer madness.

90’s

After another trying time, a newly reborn Psylocke attempts to swindle Cyclops into an affair. He kisses the heroine, and puts his relationship in jeopardy AGAIN! Some people never change. The new female hero unsuccessfully attempts to spark an affair, this time it does not work.

Cyclops and Jean Grey then formally marry.

2000’s

Within a couple years they become distant. Scott abstains from intimacy with his wife, and Jean kisses Wolverine in the woods. When she tries to confront her husband, he pushes away even more. Cyclops becomes telepathically intimate with former villain, Emma Frost. She manipulates him to his core, until therapy sessions become more and more intimate. Phoenix finds out, and she does not blame her husband because the affair was only MENTAL! The Phoenix dies again, and he apologizes. She urges him to go on living, and Emma and Scott carve out a brand new romance.

2010's

Cyclops then allows a group of X-Men to kill the newly established Hellfire club, and splits his ties with Wolverine. His relationship with the X-Men is now under a lot of turbulence, after all of the dead bodies on his hands. There is now a split in the X-Men with Cyclops having one school, and Wolverine taking another.

Scott then obtains the Phoenix force and strikes Professor Xavier in anger after being told he is out of control.

To his horror, he has murdered the man that was his only father figure growing up.

He descends into madness and is unable to control the new mutation he has recently acquired. The Uncanny X-Men are his new team, and he is the leader of a mutant revolution. Scott Summers is a good human being, that has been tempted to look towards the darkness.

He is evil incarnate, and he is also the spawn of one of the only major Marvel franchises that has not stayed dormant over the span of their existence. The X-Men are naturally moving forward, and we have Scott Summers to thank for that, even if he is the mutant equivalent to Hitler.
