MTV Release New 'The Dark Knight Rises' Trailer

Author: Chazz

Reading time: 2 minutes

The MTV Movie Awards are notorious for releasing never-before-seen trailers of upcoming new film releases, and this year their (very smart) choice was to premiere footage of The Dark Knight Rises, the latest and last in the current trilogy of DC’s ‘Batman’ films, released 20th July 2012 in cinemas both in America and in the UK.

Christian Bale as Batman in The Dark Knight Rises

Revealing a little more about the portrayal and role of Catwoman (played by Anne Hathaway) in the film, and confirming that Bane (Tom Hardy) will be his own physical force to be reckoned with, rather than his 1997 interpretation as Poison Ivy’s collaborator (though in brutal honesty he was more of a servant than a co-conspirer), the 1 minute, 28 second long trailer gives a little more insight into the parts played by the villains rather than that of the hero himself. In contradiction to the previous empowered, confident Catwoman roles played by the likes of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry, this time round she seems much more wary, for lack of a better word, of Batman and his power over both Gotham and everyone in it. The ending quote “You should be as afraid of him as I am”, delivered by the PVC-clad seductress is one that leaves an impact on the audience, and a number of questions unanswered about the sequences in the clip. Despite the given hints about some of the protagonists of the final film, the current trailers in their entirety still leave much to the imagination of the viewer as to the plot of the film, something that will both be driving fans of the series completely insane, and getting them increasingly excited for the release later this year.

With the trailer including a short sequence depicting British Sci-Fi actor Burn Gorman (Torchwood’s Owen Harper) as an unidentified sufferer of these characters’ wraths, it seems that even when it comes down to the smaller less significant characters and details, Christopher Nolan is doing everything in his power to ensure that his term as ‘Batman’ director ends with a bang.
