First Look at the Edge Of Spider-Verse Prelude

Marvel announced a surprise Spider-Verse prelude this morning that includes writing from one very notable figure that is extremely conservative regarding his comics works. Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance is making his Marvel debut on Issue #5 of the new Edge of Spider-Verse series. CBR posted the solicitations this morning along with an interview for the new book.

The title is shipping almost weekly with three issues out in September, and the rest of the material shipping in October. Each issue features a different creative team, and different Spider-Man to focus on before the big Spider-Verse event in November featuring a team-up with every Spider-Man character ever made (in the Marvel Universe). There are many highlights in the title including a Spider-Man that is really Gwen Stacy written and drawn by Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez.

My other goal was to put together one of the most interesting stable of creators ever. I didn't want this to be just another group of stories leading up to an event. I wanted it to be special. So the creators were what I thought of first and I'm really, really proud with the people I've got on these issues.

His art was something that Gerard fell in love with. So they're a match made in heaven. Hopefully this is the start of a larger relationship between Gerard, Marvel and Jake. It's a really, really cool story and I'm so stoked to be working on it with them.
