FX Pick Up del Toro's The Strain
Guillermo del Torro, director of the excellent Hellboy and the superb Pan's Labyrinth, has announced that his series of vampire books, The Strain, which he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan, has been picked up by FX. This is going to be a great vampire TV series. You just know it.
Reports say that the pilot will be directed, executive produced and co-written by Guillermo del Toro which will set the tone of the series just like Martin Scorsese on Boardwalk Empire, and that'll make the pilot of The Strain a must see. Chuck Hogan will be co-writing the rest of the series - always a good idea to have people attached to the books work on the TV series, makes them good (as long as the books are good that is - in this case it's a good thing).
"FX made the most sense, based on the level of commitment, passion and understanding of the concept of the book," explained del Toro to Deadline. "They got behind the idea of making this a close-ended series. We wanted to follow the books closely and so it couldn't be open-ended, but rather three to five seasons max."
Awesome. Just what every fan wants to hear.
Del Toro also explained that he hopes the first book, The Strain, can make up Season 1, second book The Fall Season 2 and third book The Night Eternal can make up Season 3 and 4, while the shooting of the pilot will commence in September 2013 after Pacific Rim has come out. That's really the only bad thing about this, the wait. It'll be worth it though, trust me.
