Nor-Con VI

Nor-Con, the Norfolk TV, Film and Comic convention saw its 6th outing on the 8th October 2016. After a year out since the last con, a distinctly smaller affair, this year the organisers pulled out all the stops to put on a great show. The change of venue to the Norfolk showground allowed for more of everything: vendors, displays, artists and film/T.V stars attending for signings and photo opportunities. Red Dwarf veterans Danny John-Jules (Cat) and Norman Lovett (The original Holly) were present, former Doctor Who Peter Davison as well as stars of dinosaur caper Primeval Andrew Lee-Potts and fellow dino-hunter and S-Club 7 member Hannah Spearitt were also in attendance, chatting, taking selfies and signing autographs for fans. A major part of film, TV and comic conventions, as any regular attendee will tell you, is the cosplay and Nor-Con definitely holds its own. A colourful array of characters from Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Doctor Who walk around alongside Disney Princesses, the horrors of Silent Hill and several Power Rangers. An encouraged part of the day, the cosplay competitions for both adult and kids give out awards and prizes throughout the day for the most impressively dressed.

Delorean    Several vehicle and prop displays were dotted around the venue again this year, not only the DeLorean (Pictured) from the Back to the Future franchise, but also Lightning McQueen, Del Boy's Three-wheeler, the Tardis and even an Iron Throne. With more space in this years venue the organisers were really able to make the most of a far greater range of comic and merchandise vendors, more to check out and a more open stage area for the various live talk sections of the day.

Local Cons are definitely in an ascendancy in recent years, hopefully this trend will continue as 'nerdy' interests feel the 'Game of Thrones effect' and make their way to mainstream acceptance, these types of events draw ever bigger crowds on previous years (a whole other can of worms, which I won't open further here). Nevertheless Nor-Con VI definitely holds it's own to the big boy Cons in London and one can't help but leave with a smile on ones face.
