Augmented: The Biopunk One-Shot Comic Coming to Kickstarter

Augmented is the debut one-shot comic from writer J.J. Drucker and artist Sterling. It's four years in the making and heading to Kickstarter. Set in a biopunk future where corporations control human evolution, it's a groundbreaking new take on the dystopian action genre. Augmented takes readers to the not-so distant future of the early twenty-third century. A period where human beings splice their own DNA with the genes of animals and plants. The limits of evolution and human physiology are pushed to the extreme. This is no utopia, however. Augmentations are controlled by corps that have developed the technology to grow augmented humans from just a few cells. And if the body rejects the augmentations, it could lead to dire consequences.

Drucker describes Augmented as, 'A Biopunk action comic for fans of anime and manga, action flicks and cyberpunk visions of the future.'

The World of Augmented

In the year 2204, humanity has unlocked the power of Augmentations: implanting the genes of one organism into another. As a result, a new subspecies of human has emerged: Homo sapiens augmentum.

This comes at a cost, however. Sometimes the augmentations fail. When they corrupt the genetic code, rapid mutations occur, creating what is known as a Chimaera. All sense of self is lost. The victim becomes an amalgamation of animal parts, leaving a bestial husk of a being.

There's another price too. All augmentations come with a price tag produced by the future's many megacorporations. In the race to develop cutting edge augmentations, Corps have turned to growing humans in a lab. Each one is engineered with desirable traits already built in.

The Rangers are one example. These law enforcers are augmented to give them an edge in combat against Chimaeras.

In the floating city of New Lemuria, one such ranger, Furina, boasts venom potent enough to take down an elephant. Her purpose is simple: hunt Chimaeras and uphold the law in the city. However, after her superiors cast her aside, she's recruited into a scheme by Sal, an old friend with large ambitions. She has her sights set on a revolutionary new augment held deep within the vaults of the city's most powerful corporation. This job will teach Furina what it means to be Augmented.

Meet the Creator: J.J. Drucker

Augmented is the debut comic of J.J. Drucker. AJ.J. spent a lifetime building worlds and stories. After three years studying the craft and assisting comics writer R.J. Collins (Arks), he's finally ready to release his debut one-shot.

The culmination of four years of work, J.J. is ready to debut his first one-shot comic.
