CCTVYLLE #2 Review
Reading time: 2 minutes

Set in London in the not-too-distant future, CCTVYLLE shows the dramatic and controversial consequences of living a life with thousands of CCTV-bird hybrids that belong to a government-run agency in order to keep an eye out for any crime in the city.
Issues 0 & 1 were superb introductions to the world of CCTVYLLE, giving glimpses of how the birds are practically everywhere, always watching and listening, controlled by an agency that clearly can't be trusted. What makes the fascinating take on big brother state future isn't just the creepy use of birds to watch everyone, but the fantastic artwork really helps brings it all to life. Issue 2 is worth the wait for the art alone. Some of the detail is unbelievable, with page 2's full-page panel being the standout of not just this issue but arguably the series so far (the great news is that you can buy this as a print - "CCTVYLLE Skyline" - A3 print).

The main focus of this issue is a new character, Owlduch, who has decided that it's time that she stepped in to help Sean, Claire and Damien. She's a good character to introduce to the series with what you learn about her and what she does to kick everyone into action. She has one job, and she does it.
Thankfully with the introduction of Owlduch, we are also treated to seeing a bit more about how corrupt and wayward the government agency is, which really shouldn't be a shocker to anyone - there are birds with CCTV cameras for heads that should tell you all you need to know about them so it's not a surprise to see how far they'll go. It's always good to see it, though. One side says the other is bad only goes so far without you actually being able to see the other side. In the case of CCTVYLLE, the government agency is the other side that you want to see more off because it's such an interesting idea.
It's tough to find something to dislike about this issue. It does everything that it needs to. It has some of the fascinating bird-CCTV hybrids, a new character that drives the story forward, more on the agency behind them, surprises, emotion and the general craziness of the world that CCTVYLLE has created.
Overall, issue 2 has proven to be another very successful Kickstarter campaign and issue 3 can't come soon enough - although you can be sure, with what has come before it, that it will be worth the wait. As it is, issue two get's a very respectable 4.5 out of 5.
You can order Issue 2 of CCTVYLLE from the CCTVYLLE website. Alternatively, if you're in or around London and want to pick it up in person, Orbital Comics will be stocking it.
