Krypton

Last month there was talk about the long-gestating Superman prequel Krypton getting closer to a pilot episode. Now SyFy have officially greenlit the project.

Produced by longtime DC movie screenwriter David S. Goyer, Krypton will feature Superman's grandfather, named Seyg-El and "will follow Superman's grandfather – whose House of El was ostracized and shamed – as he fights to redeem his family's honor and save his beloved world from chaos."

Goyer has previously stated that this television series is set within the continuity of the DC Extended Universe.

“Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe,” said Bill McGoldrick, Executive Vice President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”

Sleepy Hollow's Damian Kindler will serve as Krypton's showrunner, while also executive producing alongside pilot director Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders). The pilot's screenplay was written by Goyer, along with Ian Goldberg (Once Upon A Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). This new TV series is being produced by Goyer's Phantom Four and Warner Horizon Television.

Syfy hasn't revealed a scheduled air date for Krypton.
