Time Bomb Comics Launches Project SWORD Graphic Novel

The new Project SWORD graphic novel arrives on 15th August, as Time Bomb Comics, a member of comics industry body Comic Book UK, proudly announces its official general release. This landmark publication brings a unique property to life in graphic novel form. It springs from the mind of legendary creator Gerry Anderson (Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Stingray).

The story unfolds in 3031. A catastrophic meteorite strike has burrowed deep into the Earth's core, reshaping the entire world. Instead of total annihilation, the impact triggered a slow, destabilising collapse. Rising tides swallow vast territories, while relentless volcanic activity ravages the surface. In this frightening new reality, humanity's survival rests with one body: the Space World Organisation for Research and Development. It is better known as Project SWORD.
The campaign emerged from a partnership between Time Bomb Comics and Anderson Entertainment. Together they set out to produce new stories from classic Anderson concepts. Other properties like Terrahawks and Space Precinct were established TV hits. Project SWORD, however, occupied a different space. It existed only as 1960s toys and a comic annual, which offered a rare opportunity for complete creative freedom.
The creative team took a revolutionary approach. They imagined Project SWORD as a contemporary high-budget series made for modern streaming platforms. The resulting Project SWORD graphic novel serves as a "note-perfect adaptation" of an episode from a series that doesn't actually exist.
Artist James Grey updated the vehicle and spaceship designs from the vintage toys. With no traditional story bible to follow, the team built the world from the ground up. The result bridges 1960s nostalgia and modern genre storytelling.
The road to publication was paved by an overwhelmingly successful Kickstarter campaign. It became Time Bomb Comics' most successful to date, raising £9,983. That success reflects a growing appetite for indie comics in the UK and abroad. It also underlines the enduring legacy of Gerry Anderson's vision.
Modern audiences have already been captivated by the stunning visual world. It has won over long-time Anderson fans and new readers alike, created by Lizbeth and James Grey.
"It was obvious that Project SWORD was very different from the others," says Time Bomb Publisher Steve Tanner. "The approach we took was to imagine if Project SWORD was something that existed as a contemporary series being produced today... even though the source material didn't actually exist!"
Project SWORD graphic novel will be available for purchase starting August 15th 2026. It will be sold through the Time Bomb Comics website and the Anderson Entertainment website.
