Rider was last scene in The Thanos: Imperative and thankfully Marvel Comics is finally teasing a bigger role for the character that will be revealed in the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy #18 during with Marvel’s brand new Original Sin event. Author Brian Michael Bendis is continuing writing to write the series, while illustrator Ed McGuinness is going to join him on pencils. Marvel.com broke this story and noted that this is the first time the duo have created a story together despite the fact that they have both been telling Marvel stories for a long time. Original Sin focuses on the death of the Watcher, and how his eyeballs reveal secrets that could have drastic implications on the further events of the universe. After the events of Infinity, Thanos has been turned stone and is located in the secret prison of the New Avengers. This likely means that the villain’s role in the story will be probably be contained too flashbacks. Here is excerpts from the author, teasing what led up to the Richard Rider story.

Original Sin has been planned for years, so I was very aware that this would be the perfect place to unveil this storyline. I know waiting for this was frustrating for some longtime readers, but every story comes at its own time

We have literally been dropping hints since the Guardians guest-starred in AVENGERS ASSEMBLE. I have known exactly what we were doing with this from the moment I agreed to do the book, but I thought it would be best to slow burn the reveal and get any potential new readers—which I am so happy that we have so many—involved in this story, which they may not have read during the previous GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY run. Now, not only does this reveal answer a question for diehard readers, it also tells something about the characters to the newer readers.
