Suicide Squad Cast is Revealed

As reported by Variety, Warner Bros. has revealed the core cast of its 2016 Suicide Squad film, with Jared Leto confirmed as the Joker. In addition to Leto, we now also know who will make up the rest of the cast. Will Smith will be Deadshot, Tom Hardy is Rick Flag, Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney is Boomerang and Cara Delevigne is Enchantress. As previously reported, the film will be directed by David Ayer and produced by Charles Roven.
That's a pretty big cast, and it's quite odd to see Tom Hardy return to a DC Comics film so soon after playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.
Variety also stated that "Batman v Superman" star Jesse Eisenberg is "also in talks" to reprise his role as Lex Luthor for Suicide Squad; and the role of Amanda Waller has yet to be cast - although Warner Bros. has reportedly got some ladies in mind - Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey.
Warner Bros. President Greg Silverman said in a statement:
"The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero."
Rumours concerning the Suicide Squad cast have run rampant since the official announcement from Warner Bros. in October. Leto was rumoured as Joker in early November, with Robbie reportedly in contention for Harley Quinn a few days later, and reports have connected Hardy to the film for weeks. With the film set to include a lot of lesser known DC characters, stacking the cast with big named talent is a good way to bring some extra exposure which will hopefully appeal to fans and non-comic book fans alike.
Director David Ayer commented on the film a few days after its announcement, shedding some light on the tone it intends to take.
"I can say that it's a 'Dirty Dozen' with supervillains. Then I can ask the question, 'Does a movie really need good guys?'"
Suicide Squad is scheduled for release on 5th August 2016. Based on the DC comic book, the story centers on the team of supervillains who are given a chance at redemption by the government. The catch: Their mission will probably kill them all.
