Kickstarter Highlight: "Working In: The Arts" by the CHIP Collective

Working in: The Arts is the second comic anthology from the CHIP Collective. CHIP (Comics Help Inform People) aim to create informative graphic novels that raise awareness about varied ranges of subjects to as wide an audience as possible - their first project was "Living With Cancer: Our Stories", a Cancer Awareness anthology comic raising money for Cancer Research UK.

Following up on Living With Cancer: Our Stories, which was published thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2019, raising funds for Cancer Research UK, this new project is seeking £8100 in backing on Kickstarter, with under a month to run.

Working in: The Arts is a 68-page book, that's an informative collaborative comic highlighting the HUGE variety of potential career paths and opportunities within the field of the arts, to show that there's no one way to break into the creative field, and to break stigmas and negative stereotypes surrounding working in the creative field.

For this comic, they've interviewed 9 creatives working professionally in the arts including: Animation, Comics, Games, Graphic Design, Illustration, Jewellery, Textiles, Photography and Fashion Photography. All of these creatives, while working in different fields and locations across the UK, share one thing in particular – ties to Scotland – to help illustrate how varied creative opportunities can be!

Those 9 creatives are: Jacqueline Briggs (Illustration); Jennifer Clarke (Textiles); Angus Dunn (Animation); Alannah Eileen (Fashion Photography); Eve Greenwood (Comics); Tomas Hermoso (Photography); Rory Jobson (Games); Kirsten Manzi (Jewellery); and Hannah Moitt (Graphic Design).

The format is talking about how they got to where they are today, what bumps they’ve had to overcome along the way, and any advice they’d give to someone interested in working in a similar position all through the medium that they love - a comic, making the information and advice given in these stories in a more accessible format, allowing people from all ages, backgrounds, and points in life to take it all in!
